Since 1986, I am working ashore for a shipping company based in Bombay , which has its own fleet of tankers, bulk carriers and gas carriers.
I joined the organisation as Marine Superintendent, with responsibility of looking after the fleet. With limited resources then available, it was very challenging experience. Due to my seniority I had received extensive support from my management and provided me with various opportunities.
I have been involved in every aspects of shipping. To list a few.
- Assess market situations for fleet deployment & dynamism of
markets while keeping tab on various cost inputs such as bunker &
port cost.
- Monitor vessel’s Pre & Post fixtures activities.
- Operation,
- Commercial Operation
- Fleet Personnel activities.
- Tendering process,
- Negotiation of charter party.
- Negotiation of agency house contracts.
- Negotiation with the unions for crew and officers wages.
- Ship’s sale and purchase activities.
- Market company vessels for long-term contract.
- Co-ordinate pooling arrangement of the company.
- Maintain working dialogue with ours ship’s charters for day-to-day operation.
- Port requirements and monitoring ships capabilities.
- Regular Maintenance, preparations for periodic lay-ups.
- Dry-dock repair specks and contracts
- Insurance and P&I matters.
- Ship’s Inspections for purchase and other assessments.
All such activities, which is required by shipping company operating
their vessels in the International waters.
